I shall but copy and past the notice that Rob Smith's daughter Samantha posted on his blog this afternoon:

News...

This is Sam. Rob has passed away. They found him at 2:00 this morning slumped over on the couch. He did not shoot himself and no pills or alcohol were found in the house. When I find out anything else I'll let you know. Out of respect for my family please do not leave nasty comments.

Rob was a friend, and for a while, a mentor in blogging.  Though our conversations eventually took distant paths, our correspondence never led away from the trail of friendship.

Godspeed, Rob.  Rest in peace.

And to Samantha, Quentin and Mommie.... my prayers are with you.
