Legendary lawman Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, AZ is a man whom, in my opinion ought to be elevated to higher office. His record of very tough, but very fair treatment of prisoners in his keep ought to be a lesson plan for this nation's jails and prisons.
Just this action alone will undoubtedly cause a significant number of miscreants to find other counties than Maricopa in which to futher their criminal careers. From the AP wire:
PHOENIX (AP) - Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who gained notoriety for putting inmates on chain gangs and issuing them striped uniforms and pink underwear, has now ordered all undocumented immigrants currently in jail to register for the draft.
I hope they put up posters and notices all over the County for that. Not only would a wider publicity just drive the left nuts.... (well, okay....nuttier, but is that even possible!?), it would serve as quite the warning to the criminal class.
About 500 undocumented immigrants housed in the Phoenix-area county's jail system have not complied with a 1980 federal law that requires all men between the ages of 18 and 26 to register for the draft, regardless of their immigration status, Arpaio said.
Fact is, they're in there in the first place for "not complying" with a host of other laws. Still though, if this scares even a few of 'em to reconsider taking Uncle Sam's justice for granted, then it's an effort worth doing.
"I can't say that I've ever heard anything like this, but we do appreciate any effort toward compliance," said Dan Amon, a spokesman for the Selective Service System in Washington, D.C.
Well, Dan, don't expect any help from the Idiotorians over at MoveOn, the DonkUnderground or any other part of the America hating left. They're more likely to be recruiting for the French surrendermonkies at the U.N.
He said Arpaio may be doing the undocumented immigrants a favor by ordering them to register, because Selective Service is tied to a number of benefits, including citizenship.
If they want to legalize their immigration status, the first thing they would be asked is whether they are registered for the draft, Amon said.
And frankly, military service is perhaps the most honorable way for an immigrant to hasten his or her citizenship. Of course, probably 98% of these criminals wouldn't be allowed into the military in the first place. But let's not tell 'em, that. I'd rather they live in constant dread of not only LaMigra, but of that wonderful congratulatory telegram from the President of the United States of America.
The United States hasn't had a draft since 1973. Registration was reinstated in 1980, and the law still requires that males who are U.S. citizens or resident aliens register within 30 days of their 18th birthdays.
Teaching new, albiet illegal immigrants to obey any United States law is a step in the right direction. I'd love to see this Incarceration Registration process be mandated in every lockup in the land.
If nothing else, we could recruit a United States Criminal Corps.
Oh wait, we've got one of those already. But at least you can vote those Congresstwerps out of office.
Sadly, these days it's much easier to recall a lousy politician than it is to deport an illegal alien.
