(Brain)-Dead Man Talking

Regular readers here will have no problem recalling just how much I despise the former human known as Andy Rooney.

Athough his present form of existence is somewhere below the basest level of humanity, he still manages to steal oxygen, sadly, in front of a CBS camera and in the face of a brain-numbed nation.

But, the tides do turn, and ol' Andy is past ebb; unkowingly riding an outgoing tide to oblivion.

Hell, his mind went the route of the sewer long ago, which probably explains his blatant, cynical disrespect of those WWII veterans who were honored this weekend at the long, long overdue WWII Memorial on the Mall in Washington, D.C.

Twelve of my classmates died in World War II, but my memory of them comes at unexpected times - not on Memorial Day - and I would like to see the effort we now put into this one day redirected.

There are men in every country on earth - mostly men - who spend full time devising new ways for us to kill each other. In the United States alone, we spend seven times as much on war as on education.

There's something wrong there. On this Memorial Day, we should certainly honor those who have died at war, but we should dedicate this day, not so much to their memory, but to the search for a way to end the idiocy of the wars that killed them.

I found that on a great blog which appeared in my referer logs. Yes, I was stunned that a bit of my Memorial Day post was used in the same breath as Mills and Emerson.... Now then, I'm thrilled to link to her entire post for your enlightenment. And, welcome to the blogroll, Athena!

If brevity is indeed the soul of wit, then Lexxiblog's Memorial Day post is word for word, the most powerful of the weekend.

Compare what she wrote and posted to the ramblings of that senile CBS gasbag. Then, consider this....

At some point of offense, the usual cultural rules of society are so completely broken, so as to render chivalry and conventional gallantry; moot.

Rooney is a case in point. He has crossed the line not once, but several times. Not by small margins, but by gross excess.

Should a twenty-year old troop, a thirty year-old housewife, a forty-year old cop, a fifty year old veteran or a sixty year old grandma just up and beat the ever loving shit out of that fossilized communist gasbag, it would be a just and honorable act.

He has rendered the traditional courtesy to the aged in his case.....null and void.

I'd love to see the film of him yappin' his traitourous flap in the wrong right time, at the wrong right place, to the wrong right veteran.

They'd have to invent a prize higher than the Pulitzer for that one.
