Yes, really. It's on the calendar, and I'm going to post it, come hell or high water Hurricane Rita.
That bitch can't stop a good time, she can only postpone it.
You'll find contact information for the hosts of this event at the bottom of the extended post. Please, give this event and fine group of people your support. Show up, shoot 'em, eat hearty, smoke languidly and drink wisley and well.
If Rita sees fit to actually clobber the area, contact Richard to find out when the rescheduled Crawl will commence.
These crawls are legendary Houston happenings. I'm looking very forward to going on one m'self.
WEST HOUSTON SMOKE & POWDER CRAWL IX
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 8, 2005
"Some people can never rest easy so long as they have a nagging suspicion that
someone, somewhere, is having fun."
I'm happy to announce the Ninth Annual S&PC! Sadly, Houston restaurants no
longer allow smoking ... but WE do! We will start at ASC and proceed in a cloud
of gunsmoke to stuff ourselves blind and smoke until we fall over. The schedule
(feel free to join us at any point):
9:00 Start - American Shooting Center, 16500 Westheimer, 77082 281)556-8086.
Rifle/pistol at $8 per person, including a target and range officer (Not a
target -- give him cigars if you like). For shotgunners, they have Skeet or
Trap, Five Stand or Sporting Clays. The Shoot-out, at a one cigar buy-in, is
slated.
12:30 - Lunch - Paul's Seafood & Oyster Boat, 1704 Highway 6 S, 77077-2804.
281)556-5086 As always, great fresh seafood and cigar-friendly people who (tho'
under new management) actually invited us back.
2:30 - Richmond Ave. 8800 block Richmond @ Fondren Rd. 713)975-9057 Dan, the
new owner, will give a 10 % discount on all purchases and offer liquid
refreshments to the booze-hounds ... er, Crawlers. Strongly recommend
Collector's Firearms (713-781-1960) next door. ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING allowed in
the building but worth putting your stogie out and stepping in anyway to drool
at the 5000+ guns.
4:00 - The Smoke Ring. 14019 Southwest Frwy. Ste. 400, Sugar Land 281)
265-1387 These knowledgeable cigar people have a nice lounge area with
overstuffed chairs, convivial conversation, smokes from Fuente, CAO, Ashton,
Avo, Padron, etc., and a 250 sq. ft. walk-in humidor. Marcus and Jerry have
offered a 5 % discount on cigars, 10% on accessories, and an additional surprise
is in the works. The fastest route is Sam Houston Tollway to Hwy 59 and south
to the Sugar Creek/Dairy-Ashford exit, on the south side of 59.
5:15 - Cigars Cigars. 2581 Town Center North, Sugar Land, 77479 281)240-1362
Off Hwy 6, south of Hwy 59. Claiming one of the largest humidors in the Greater
Houston area, CC runs heavily toward Perdomo (One of our sponsors, hint, hint),
and other upper end smokes, at competitive prices. Crawlers will get 20 % off
accessories, buy 3 get 1 free cigars and one will win an Ashton Savoy humidor.
The shop is attached to a huge, members-only, smoking lounge. There is no
smoking in the shop, but Rich Tisch has arranged for guest memberships to the
lounge. The invitation extends to those who want to return after dinner.
7:00 - C&H Steak. 12000 Hwy 59, Sugar Land, 77478, Wilcrest exit.
(281)277-9292 This is one of the Pappas family of restaurant; opulent, with a
menu concentrating on "Surf & Turf." The prices are not up to those at Pappas
Bro.s but the quality is.
This year we are proud to be sponsored by:
Moore & Bode: This brand, long known to the "cognoscenti," is back for the
eighth year. Still made by the entubar method, these are incredible
medium-bodied smokes and samples will be included for all crawlers.
Nick's Cigars: Nick Perdomo is back with us again. His cigars, whether the less
expensive brands or his top of the line, all show a quality and attention to
detail that is rarely seen. In all Nick's cigars you will find an earthy depth
of flavor that pleases but never overwhelms your senses.
Baranow's: Wal Baranow from the land of Oz (Australia) is with us for the forth
time. Baranow's provides mail-order cigars, specializing in Cubans and with
better prices than you can find outside of Spain. www.cigar1.com.au
DiMeola cigars: These medium strength, masterfully blended cigars are created as
a work of art by craftsman Richard DiMeola. And additional surprise sponsors and gifts.
RSVP: To get the correct number of cigars from our sponsors, we will need a list
of those attending. As a corollary to this, if you don't let me know you are
coming, you don't get free cigars. You can contact [email protected] or call
Richard at 979)826-4323 or 826-3617 for additional information.
Best wishes, guys n' gals. I'll be out and away, dodging Rita. I really mean it though. I'm wanting to go on the next one, so keep me in mind!
