The worst thing about an extended absence from the 'net, is the process of catching up and processing the myriad issues and arguments which have arisen in the preceeding days.
Check.
The blogroll's contributions have been consumed and the MSN news digested, I believe I'm fairly current with the day's challenges.
Being at work, I can't type as much as I'd like, so I will provide a link to a very worthwhile article, with credit to Uncle Jimbo at Blackfive.net. Here's the link, from Jules Critteden, Boston Herald City Editor.
Logic is irrelevant in combating these fears, as it is with children who fear monsters under the bed. This is not to disparage these fears. The threat is real. And while statistically remote, there is a factor that elevates terrorism beyond the many mundane fates we all dodge daily. It is the malice.
That is a damned fine piece of work, and I agree with it completely.
Per the title to this post, Mr. Critteden's article is indeed, leading somewhere. I shall have a bit to say on the topic, and more. Alas, for now, I must now toil till day's end.
Glad you're back! Looking forward to it!

While the malice of terrorism might be what elevates it, it is also malice which can assist us in combating that fear.
Also, as far as "more likely to die" in one manner or another than terrorism: true. However, that's not to say that there won't be numerous and large scale terrorist attacks on our country resulting in many, many more dead than has previously been the case. It's always a possibility.
Which isn't to say we should fear. The only thing we have to fear, really, is fear itself (to steal from Patrick Henry). My soul's prepared, and there is nothing that scares me on this world, except maybe the suffering of my loved ones.
